Artour: App Design

Artour was created as a tool for art lovers to view virtual tours of their favorite art exhibits from their phone. It also features guided tours of in-person exhibitions.

The Problem:

Busy art lovers want a chance to view and learn about artworks while on the go.

The Goal:

Create an art history app providing guided and virtual tours for patrons of the gallery to enjoy anywhere.

Role
Lead UX and Visual Designer

Audience
Art lovers on the go

Project Duration:
March 2023- May 2023

Conducting Research

  • The competitive audit found several apps with virtual tours, however most tours were either current tours and they did not include archived tours. Nearly all required a payment to view them.

  • Two types of users were used for our studies and design. The first type of user had difficult engaging in person at the gallery due to visual or hearing impairment, and would benefit from a tool on hand to help see the gallery. The second user group were users who wanted to attend the gallery but simply did not have the time or resources to do so.

  • The first usability study showed pain points with icon choices and a desire to click on each individual artwork that was shown in the app.

  • The second usability revealed frustrations with text visibility and language choices that described each of the features on the app.

Takeaways

As this was my very first UX project, I was catapulted into learning new information. I developed familiarity and proficiency in designing with Figma, and learned so much about accessibility as it relates to how users want to experience their own user journeys.
